Visual Spec & Architecture Diagram
Weekly study-plan template graphic: Mon paper, Wed blog/docs, Fri tiny experiment, weekend notes. Stack of free resources icons (arXiv, course notes, official docs)—generic, not piracy.
Why it matters
MASTER’s intent: compete on knowledge access. Learners need a plan, not infinite tabs. Stanford publishes substantial free-facing materials (CS224N resources, SLP3 draft, AIMS textbook, course pages for CS321M/STS14/CS524)—use them deliberately.
How it works (plain)
- Pick a path (builder / researcher / governance-aware practitioner).
- Schedule 3–5 hours/week.
- Alternate chapters and labs.
- Ship tiny projects.
- Read one paper/month with the claim card method.
- Avoid credential theater.
Everyday example
Four weeks: CS224N lecture videos (public playlist noted on course site) + one classification lab + one paper checklist pass—stronger than buying a badge you do not use.
Try it
Write a 4-week plan with chapter slugs and one mini-project. Include at least one Course 23 literacy chapter.
Myths
- ⚠️ Myth: Free means unserious.
- ✓ Reality: Rigor is practice + verification, not price.
- ⚠️ Myth: You need paid GPU clusters to learn.
- ✓ Reality: Many courses use Colab-scale experiments; CS224S even budgets modest Colab spend as a teaching choice—plan compute honestly.
- ⚠️ Myth: Governance courses are only for lawyers.
- ✓ Reality: STS 14 is explicitly for mixed backgrounds spanning policy and technical tracks.
