I don’t buy the “pace the frontier” chorus as real news. When Amodei, Altman, and Musk all land on the same talking point in the same weekend, I look past the headlines. That is how media sounded right before Covid — everyone suddenly singing one hymn. I do not trust stories when they all say the same thing. AI is advancing just fine.
The so-called hacking scare and the sudden “AI is becoming dangerous” drumbeat feel like a unified narrative finding its lane. These companies already showed how they behave: data collected from basically everywhere without regard. That is not the posture of a shop terrified of what the models might do. Scared companies do not train like that.
What it reads like is a precursor to something larger. Put the warning out now, and later they can say they told us. Hands clean when something bad lands. The little crack about governments taking too long to react lines up a little too perfectly — then, how convenient if the AI they built outruns the state and the labs get to design the system that regulates what comes next.
I am not saying I have proof of a finished plot. I am saying the shared sermon is the tell. Watch the chorus. Progress is still the signal. The sudden agreement is what I do not trust.
